I am an unabashed Tony Hughes fan so I purchased Combo Prospecting: The Powerful One-Two Punch That Fills Your Pipeline and Wins Sales when it was available for pre-sale and then eagerly awaited its arrival.Bits and pieces of Tony's work were coming out in his presentations and posts so I knew in advance that it would be excellent. Still Combo Prospecting exceeded my expectations.The books I enjoy the most are clear, concise around a defined theme, practical (with both examples as well as tools) and actionable. I don't like endless case studies or conclusions that have a experience sample of n=1. I love DATA. Data that provides insight. I love graphics that say something and enhance the message and I don't like uselessly graphic business books. Combo Prospecting is everything I love in a business book. If you're in sales, just skip the rest of the review and go buy it now because you already know how my review is going to end.Tough Truth Will Set You FreeI'd estimate that close to half of this book is dedicated to revealing the cold and brutal facts about the sales world we now live in and then offering the most insightful and practical way to navigate that using the all the tools we have at our disposal in sales today. It's down and dirty, gritty and I love it. The formula often goes like this:New Brutal Truth > Insightful Implication > Best Way to Navigate & Embrace > Example > Action Items.BOOM! Why can't every book be written this way? Let's cut the crap, look at the reality of the situation, and get on with what to do about it.Metrics & Quality ResearchTony has always managed to obtain rare and highly relevant statistics for his articles and presentations. Combo Prospecting continues that tradition with some very insightful metrics and research. I really enjoy how Tony uses research to not only explain the new dynamics of selling but also to explain why it is critical to embrace our new reality. He uses liberal references throughout and frequently quotes the other thought leaders in our field.What's Inside?In addition to tough truth mentioned above, the book has four more sections:- The dynamics of executive engagement and the human element of prospecting. I was fortunate to receive an advance copy of Combo Prospecting and was honored to provide an endorsement for this important new book from Australia's top sales guru and one of the worlds's most prolific sales experts on LinkedIn, Tony Hughes. But I like to wait to post a review on Amazon until I get the actual book in my hands and can read it again. My paper copy arrived I found myself shouting "amen" while hugely enjoying Tony's tell it like it is, in your face, here's reality and here's truth, bang-bang style! Combo Prospecting belongs in the Action Genre. It moves fast, hits hard, and offers tons of value in the way of practical tips. You will not be bored reading this and you will not doubt Tony Hughes' sales experience or expertise. I like this book so much that I'm including it in my stack of favorite sales books and authors (pictured here but missing Smart Calling by Art Sobczak and Baseline Selling by Dave Kurlan because recently I gave away my last copy of each).My strongest praise for Combo Prospecting is that Tony delivers a 1-2 punch to the head and gut of the faux/nouveau self-proclaimed thought-leaders in the sales industry who are still shamelessly preaching that the phone and traditional prospecting are dead. Tony dispels that myth and shows you not only what you need to do to create new sales opportunities but also how to COMBINE traditional and new approaches. He writes with a wonderful mix of power, confidence, competence, and calm. You know he's the real deal and that truth shines through in this book. My only critique is that it does come across a bit formulaic at times. I tend to be a little more flexible than Tony and am not as cut and dry when crafting a sales attack, but I respect his perspective and understand very clearly the strong message he is delivering.Grab a copy of Combo Prospecting for yourself or your sales team. I have been in sales 20+ years and new to Tony's books. In COMBO Prospecting you will have a blueprint, word track, timelines, software suggestions and social marketing suggestions towards drastically improve your prospecting. And the best thing is his suggestions...no...his guarantees to success are straight forward, low/no cost, no-nonsense, moldable to your style/personality/profession, and it has worked for me very quickly.Within 2 weeks of re-tooling my prospecting approach (I sell consulting services) I have 3X the clients responses and the leads are arriving faster than I've seen. Furthermore I am more direct and confident in my delivery. (I'm not telling my boss yet why I've seen so much improvement...)
